GENERAL COSTUME NOTES

Have your dancer try on his/her costume. If adjustments are needed such as sewing straps, hemming pant legs, or attaching flowers please do so immediately. When in doubt of where an item should be placed ask your child’s teacher. Have your dancer dance in his/her costume once to see how everything is going to move. (Headpieces also, make sure they are going to stay on while they move. Lots of bobby pins!)

2. The string on the bottom of the fringe is to keep the fringe from getting tangled. You can pull this string off just before pictures. Hang fringe on a hanger with clothes pins to keep from wrinkling…DO NOT stuff into a bag.

3. Tutus are worn on the hips, not on the waist. There is a top & bottom to the tutu, usually the sequins go on top.

4. Hang costumes on a hanger. Turn tutus upside down over a hanger and they will stay fuller.

5. Tutus and sleeves will look so much nicer if they don’t look like you just took them out of the bag. Some wrinkles will fall out if you put the costume on a hanger or hang it in a steamy place. Please remember that sequins are plastic and they will melt if they come in contact with a heat source.

6. Put costumes away so that they cannot be played with, get dirty, “eaten” by the dog, etc. Don’t forget to keep all of the extra pieces (hairpiece, flowers, belts, gloves, etc.) with your costume. We cannot replace your costume or any of the extra pieces if something happens to it!!

7. Costumes look best if panties are not worn under the tights. We know this might be uncomfortable or strange for the dancer, but we really don’t need to see Minnie Mouse peeking out of costumes!

8. If you need support, please find a bra that does not show through, around, under or above your costume!
